General Compounding Questions
Compounding pharmacies customize medications to meet the unique needs of patients. This process allows for adjustments in dosage, form, and ingredients to create personalized medications not available commercially.
Compounded medications offer personalized solutions for patients with specific needs, such as allergies to certain ingredients, dosage requirements, or preferences for alternative dosage forms.
Compounding allows us to customize medications according to the specific needs of each patient, offering several advantages such as:
- Altering the form of medication for ease of use or ingestion
- Adding flavor to enhance palatability
- Adjusting medication strength to meet individual requirements
- Combining multiple medications into a single dosage form
- Formulating medications that may no longer be commercially available
Absolutely! Compounded medications are safe and reliable for patients of all ages, including children and the elderly. Our compounding pharmacists can tailor medications to suit individual preferences, including flavoring options that make medications more palatable for children. For elderly patients, alternate delivery vehicles can be provided to help alleviate side effects, ensuring a comfortable and reliable treatment experience.
Yes. Compounded medications at Pure Pharmacy are both legal and ethical when prescribed by a licensed practitioner for a specific patient and compounded by a licensed pharmacy. Additionally, compounding is regulated by state boards of pharmacy to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Pure Pharmacy Questions
Pure Pharmacy is licensed to ship to 40 states nationally. We are striving to expand our reach to serve more patients nationwide. Please check our about us page to inquire about shipping availability to their state.
Insurance coverage for compounded medications varies by plan. While we do not bill insurance directly, patients may choose to submit a claim for possible reimbursement. Some insurance plans may cover part or all of the cost; however, reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your specific policy.
Please note: Due to the complexity of insurance forms and the proprietary information they often require, our pharmacy does not complete or submit claim forms on behalf of patients.
Your provider can easily submit prescriptions online through our secure portal. Alternatively, patients can request that their healthcare provider send prescriptions to us via fax, electronically, or by phone.

Quality Questions
We prioritize employee training and certification to uphold quality standards. Our comprehensive training program includes both internal and external components. New employees undergo a structured training process, starting with shadowing experienced staff, progressing to hands-on training with a trainer, followed by supervisor observation before they are deemed capable of working independently. Additionally, all compounding technicians are required to complete ACPE accredited annual compounding training. External training is also provided, with all sterile compounding technicians attending an offsite ACPE & PTCB accredited Sterile Compounding Course within one year of hire, regardless of prior experience or training.
We maintain strict standards for the procurement of raw materials. All active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) are sourced exclusively from FDA registered facilities to ensure their quality and safety.
- Routine audits of third-party laboratories
- Scheduled observation of compounding technicians - every 6 months for sterile compounding and annually for non-sterile
- Semiannual glove fingertip and media fill testing for sterile compounding personnel
- Independent third-party testing and certification of both our sterile and non-sterile labs
- Sterility Testing (USP <71>)
- Endotoxin Testing (USP <85>)
- Container-Closure Integrity Testing (USP <1207>)
- Antimicrobial Effectiveness Testing (USP <51>)
